Laura Vizbule (born in 1983)
I was born and grew up in Jelgava. After graduating from the Riga Art and Design High School (Glass Design Department), I continued my studies at the Latvian Art Academy in the glass art department. Now I am a second-year student at the Latvian Academy of Arts in the master’s program. Although my specialty is related to glass, I have always felt the desire to paint. The main thing in my works is color and their mutual relations, rhythm, lines. People often see a reference to my glass works in my paintings. In 2014 and 2015, I organized several personal exhibitions in Jelgava, Liepaja, Tervete and Alsunga. For several years, my work was related to pedagogy. I taught children both at the Jelgava Art School and as a leader of the glass art group. I have been the main artist of the city of Jelgava for two years now. Outside of work, I always try to find time for painting, continuing to participate in various exhibitions.

…Currently (2019 year) I am studying at the 2nd course of the Latvian Academy of Arts in the bachelor’s program in the field of painting.
I finished the educational program «Art» of the art school of Janis Rosenthal at НМВ. Before that, I participated in some “joint exhibitions” of artists and was an assistant in creative workshops for children.
Most of all, I like to draw landscapes on plywood. At the moment I’m trying to experiment with texture and color. In my works, I focus not on the concept, but on the image of moods and nature.

Artist statement
I paint to find answers – is it possible to have a different world, different sunsets, a different me… When I put paint on the canvas, everything starts to get organized, nature emerges from the chaos, verses of the human face, characters, secrets that have not been realized are revealed. I feel like a new explorer-traveler who still has a lot of unknown things to experience.
The painting is a surprise to yourself – you never know what the final result will be. Making the unknown and the impossible possible is what painting is for me. Visual perception is an important part of life. The process of painting is a way of revealing yourself to yourself and others.
Dace Andersone. Some time ago, when writing your resume (CV), you had to name your character and personality traits. Then I concluded that the most important thing for me is creativity.
If I don’t see an element of creativity in my activities, an opportunity to create something or participate in the creation of something, I not only get bored of such activities quickly, but also stop being interested.
That is why many years ago I chose a creative profession – journalism. This is how I create stories since the beginning of the 90s. For the last 8 years, I have changed traditional journalism to brand journalism.
I was born in Saulkrasti, I live in Pieriga. I am a Latvian with a rather large dose of leish blood, and the gene of the hot-blooded southern neighbors is what instilled in me the spirit of the impatient and dull Daukas.
I have liked to draw since I was a child, and I remember when I was in elementary school I had to write an essay about what I would like to be when I grow up. Then I dreamed that I could be the artist who would draw movie posters on the firewall at the Splendid Palace. The award for the best winter landscape in the national drawing competition in the 3rd grade inspired such an idea.
About painting!
I started painting seriously 3 years ago, when journalist and artist Kitty Grinstein brought me to the painting studio “Ceruleum”. There, under the guidance of LMA teacher Ilze Neiland, my painting began. Now Ingūna Namiķe has joined us, both teachers put their knowledge and skills into me.
Here in the studio, I calm my anxiety gene, because painting requires not only the ability to look and notice, but also a lot of patience. I paint with oil colors on cotton canvases everything that appeals to me (and I hope it will appeal to others as well). With my works, I have participated in the exhibition of the painting studio “Ceruleum” in the building of the Latvian Society.
As the saying goes, “I’m not a magician, I’m just learning.” It’s about me too. I am aware that the world of painting is so wide – there is still so much to learn and master. It excites and inspires new ideas. Enough for a lifetime.
Ilze Laizane obtained a master’s degree in both painting (2011) and graphics (2014) at the Latvian Academy of Arts. She has been a member of the Artists’ Union of Latvia since 2018 and a member of the Jūrmala Artists’ Association since 2016.
Since 2011, the artist has held more than 16 solo exhibitions in Latvia and one solo exhibition in France, Kabūra. Over ten years there have been more than 40 exhibitions, symposia and art projects.
The artist is actively involved in creative processes both in Latvia and beyond its borders – in Italy, Belgium, Austria, Lithuania, Germany, France, Belarus and elsewhere. In July 2018, the GRATA audience appreciation award created by the cultural center GrataJJ gallery MuseumLV was presented for the work “Enchanted Forest”.
She was a candidate for the Jūrmala Gada award in culture (2014), won the jury’s recognition at the competition exhibition “Yes, Independence” dedicated to Latvia’s 95th birthday for the work “Struggle, independence, freedom” (2013). SEB nomination for scholarship in painting at the LMA hall exhibition, for the work “Latvians” (2012).
Information about the artist is contained in the book – Latvia, wow! : contemporary artists from Latvia, Luciano Benetton, Vilnis Vejs, Anna Iltnere, 1st ed.
Would appreciate your interest in her artwork. Look at the long and carefully created paintings!

Beate Grisule (1997)
I am currently studying in the painting department of LMA in the 4th year of the BA program (2020).
Painting is my moral support and salvation, so I try to embrace it and grow with it. In paintings, I depict my imagination in relation to everything that is or is not around me, where you can break boundaries and not fool yourself.
